Joseph DeWoody is the co-founder, and CEO of Fort Worth-based Valor, a professional asset services provider specializing in mineral rights and oil and gas outsourcing. Since founding the company in 2018, DeWoody has helped Valor become one of the Southwest’s leading private asset managers.

DeWoody has two decades of experience in the oil and gas industry, having worked in the exploration, development, production, and investment side of the business. He’s earned several professional titles, including Certified Mineral Manager (CMM), Certified Professional Landman (CPL), and Certified Professional Lease and Title Analyst (CPLTA). Appointed to the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists by Gov. Rick Perry, DeWoody also serves as director of the National Association of Royalty Owners - Texas and has served as the Chapter Chair of YPO Fort Worth and YPO West Texas. He’s also a certified brand strategist, digital marketing professional, and has been trained in both coding and technology.

In just the past few years, Joseph has been singled out for several prestigious industry awards, including Oil and Gas Magazine’s “20 Under 40 E&P Executives,” the Fort Worth Business Press’ “40 Under 40,” Texas’ Top Producer – Best Landman in Texas, by Texas Monthly, and was D CEO Magazine’s “Energy Services and Technology Executive of the Year” in 2021. Under his leadership at Valor, the company itself has been tapped for numerous awards, including the Fort Worth Chamber’s “Small Business of the Year” (2022), Fort Worth Inc.’s “Best Companies to Work For” (2022), Top 50 Inspiring Workplaces North America, American Business Awards Gold Stevie Award for Financial Services Company of the Year, as well as becoming one of only six companies to earn a “Torch Award for Ethics” (2022) from the BBB of North Central Texas.

A graduate of Baylor University, DeWoody was awarded both a BBA in Entrepreneurship and Real Estate and an MBA, and a Certificate in Energy from Texas A&M University. He has also completed the Colorado School of Mines Petroleum SuperSchool, and the Coding Bootcamp at the University of Texas. A former walk-on member of Baylor’s Division I football program, DeWoody earned a scholarship and Academic All-Conference Honors as the starting center on offense – where he was singled out as the team’s “Offensive Lineman of the Year” (2004).
